about the
training institute
The Training Institute hosts Community and Certification trainings on topics related to the naturalist, interpretive, and outdoor fields. Through culturally relevant trainings and scholarship programs we aim to increase access to workforce development opportunities for communities impacted by racial, socio-economic, and disability injustices.
Community Trainings increase knowledge and enjoyment in the outdoor field. They focus on outdoor and naturalist topics such as birding, native plant identification, fire ecology, and climate change. These trainings are open to the public and offered free of cost to participants.
Certification Trainings equip participants with skills necessary to enter or advance in careers in the outdoor field. Certification programs include National Association of Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide Training, Leave No Trace Trainer Course and the University of California California Naturalist Certification Program.
